I See Dead People

zombies-night-of-living-deadgeorge-a-romeroIf you’re going for that Zombie look for Halloween this year, I have a tip: go on a Boy Scout campout! Last weekend my son & I did just that. I learned just like real estate, “LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION” is the key to a successful tent placement. Unfortunately, I pitched the tent in a major Snore Zone. Without the proper weapons (Lunesta nor Grey Goose) to fight this evil onslaught, I spent a very restless night. Mercifully daybreak came and with my back in full spasm I hobbled away much like the living dead.

The good thing is that Halloween is lurking right around the corner and there are many Tricks & Treats available to us all.

HAPPY TRICK-or-TREATING !!!

The Falcon & the Snowman

falcon-and-the-snowman-1985-posterSo, the boy didn’t really go up, up and away … that’s right, Falcons Don’t Always Fly. Sometimes the Falcon hides in a closet while the con man does a snow job. Talk about a balloon buster. If you want Honesty, go to the new Marriott City Center Hotel’s Vintage Bar and try their signature Cucumber Margarita! It’s incredibly delish. I promise!

Hey..another big Plus to the Vintage Bar- one side is a bar and the other…A STARBUCKS! A Grey Goose & Tonic and a Triple Venti Caramel Soy Latte at a one-stop shop! I think I’ve found Utopia!

A new Must-Try is the Sashimi Tuna Pizza @ the newly opened Dolce Vita Cafe & Bar on Cherry Street. Tongue tantalizing ingredients include Wasabi mayo & Alfalfa sprouts. The price: 5 bucks! The best money you’ll ever spend….that is, aside from the $9 Fabulous Bastard a few doors down @ Lemongrass Thai Bistro!

udo-kier-draculabigAnd while on the subject of Fabulous Bastards, have you ever seen Andy Warhol’s “Dracula” – a total art house film, but the star, Udo Kier, is my favorite Dracula of all time. Anyone know him? I want to invite him over for a bite! Maybe he’ll stay for my Halloween Party.

FRIGHT BYTES

terrell-zombie-09
“I’ve seen enough horror movies to know that any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly.” –Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives

October is my favorite month of the year! And it’s not just because Libras are my most compatible astrological sign. The cooling temps really turn me on. But the real truth is that Halloween is my bag. You can get your Horror-freak on without freaking people out. Scared is a wonderful emotion!

My son & I did a little rebel yelling of our own at the Underworld Haunted House on 3rd street. Go Check it out! Dr. Will DeVour, head of the F.E.A.R. Institute, will make all your screams come true!
psycho
If you are not into screaming then DON’T look at your bank balance. In this FML time, financial constraints are at an all-time high … but if you’re in that “Papa Needs a Brand New Bag” sort of way, would you consider buying Vintage?

“It puts the lotion on or else it gets the hose.” –Buffalo Bill, Silence of the Lambs

treasure-vintage-logo_redIf you are budget-challenged & in need of some new threads then Treasure Vintage @ 352 Cotton Avenue is calling your name. I dig vintage clothes and am a super freak about the 70’s Butterfly collared shirts. So word of advice, leave those on the rack for me. FYI: this place has Vintage Chic…it’s not a junk shop.

ET-Thriller12Can’t afford that Botox injection right now? Take advantage of your new zombie-like appearance by participating in The 11th Hour’s THRILLER Parade on Friday, Oct. 30th. Practice your moves at the weekly practices every Tuesday @ The Library Ballroom. 7pm. The dance practices make for a fun family night…so shake off the dust and get it a whirl.

Hosting a party on a budget? Save some dough on the music by using the website Pandora for a little background buzz … just hook your stereo speakers up the your laptop and presto…you’ve got a concert of any genre you’d like.

“A boy’s best friend is his mother.” –Norman Bates, Psycho

The Segal Has Landed

OINK! Do you smell Bacon? I do! The swine flu flew into my home this past week. My son has been plagued by the pork…but thankfully pigs do fly. He has made a full recovery.

ken-burns-poster1While on the subject of flying, just as the feathers are touching ground from movie star Karen Black’s departure another big bird is flocking to town. Iconic documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and his Segal collection are landing at the Museum of Arts & Sciences.

Burns’ film “The National Parks” aired last night on GPB. This Saturday @ 2:30pm Burns will present his three short films “Seeing, Searching, Being” on Maconite-turned New Yorker-turned millionaire-turned artist William Segal.
